The church of SS. Sergio Serafino and Vincenzo, located between via Giulini and via Porlezza, still represents today a precious testimony of the evolution of Milanese religious architecture, with a façade poised between the Solarian and Bramante style. Set in the heart of Milan, behind the new headquarters of Ernest & Young in Via Meravigli, the building is what remains of the original church demolished in the second half of the 20th century and is now part of the complex of buildings used as offices owned by the Fund Antirion Core Section.
The small dimensions, following the reconstruction, have been set in a harmonious and proportionate way on the arithmetic module of the number three and its multiples. Thus the length of the facade of 12m, the height at the top of the roof of 12m and the width of the interior space of only 6m effectively configure this building as the shortest church in Milan, with an atypical interior, where the decentralization of the liturgical space gives even more uniqueness to the environment.
The project focused mainly on the restoration of the facades and the roof with the aim of restoring the materials and the overall image of the building to their original state, in compliance with the direct restriction of monumental protection set by the Superintendence for Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Milan, and with a careful restoration work aimed at preserving the singularity of this architectural artefact with respect to the context of reference by now profoundly changed by the evolution of the city.
